Home EV charging where London parking and property access allow it.
A home charger depends on having somewhere to park and a way to run the cable. Where both are there, we fit it on its own circuit and plan it with any solar and battery.
No charge for assessing, and nothing to sign. Payment options for those who are eligible.
Home EV charging
The first question is where the car sits.
A home charger needs a driveway, forecourt or private space the cable can reach without crossing a public footpath. Many London homes have one, and many do not. We say early which applies to you, since it settles whether a home charger is the right answer at all.
Where it does work, a smart setup lets the car draw on spare solar ahead of the grid.
Which charger suits the space.
Tethered
The cable is attached, so it is always ready. Good for a single car on a drive.
Untethered
A socket for your own lead. A tidier wall and fine for more than one vehicle.
Solar-aware
Gives the car your panel output first, and draws on the grid only for the shortfall.
Charging at night, topping up by day.
Where the tariff has a cheap overnight window, the charger can be scheduled into it, with sunshine contributing in the daytime. Whether that saves money depends on the rates you are on and how far you drive, and we run the numbers with you.
Is a grant available?
The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost of a home charger, up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible. We'll confirm what, if anything, applies to your situation as part of your proposal.
When the charger belongs to a larger project, one finance arrangement can cover everything, qualifying nothing-upfront routes included.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind London Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and will not touch your credit file.
What the work involves.
A separate circuit
A dedicated run from the consumer unit, with cabling included.
Capacity check
A consumer unit with no spare room is flagged, and the extra work is priced.
Cable route
A tidy run from the house to the car, kept off the public footpath.
Permissions
Leasehold and some flats need consent before anything is mounted.
What drivers in London ask about charging.
Can I charge at home without a driveway?
A wall charger requires a private space within the cable's reach. If the car lives on the road, public or workplace charging usually serves better.
Can the car use my solar panels?
Yes. With a matched charger and inverter set to surplus solar, the car charges whenever the panels outproduce the house.
I rent, or live in a flat. Can I have a charger?
Often, though you need the landlord's or freeholder's consent, and any grant that applies is different. Say so when you ask and we will advise.
How long does the install take?
Typically a single day, after the consumer unit has been inspected.

See whether a charger works at your home
Tell us where the car parks, who owns the property and whether solar is fitted. We will say whether a charger looks possible.
Free, and no obligation to proceed. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and leaves your credit file alone.
Asking is free and creates no obligation. If a charger looks possible, we may check the parking and cable route with you.
