Solar Panel Installation

Solar PV

Solar panel installation for London homes with real-world roof constraints.

Dormers, party walls, loft conversions and tight access are normal in London. We design the array around them, and show you what the roof can actually hold.

Asking costs nothing and obliges you to nothing. Payment routes for qualifying homes.

Roof space

What a London roof can hold.

A bay-fronted Victorian terrace and a 1930s detached house in the outer boroughs are different problems, even when the headline numbers look alike. The pitch, the chimney breasts, any dormers and the shade from next door decide how many panels fit and how well they perform.

That is why the roof is measured and modelled before anything is quoted, rather than estimated from a satellite image.

Smaller roofs

Making each panel position count.

Higher-output panels

A higher rating gives more from each position, which matters where space is short.

A layout around obstacles

Rows are arranged to avoid vents, rooflights, dormers and edges.

Equipment for shade

Microinverters or optimisers let a shaded panel work without dragging down the rest.

A battery option

A hybrid inverter keeps the door open for storage later.

Access

Scaffolding, parking and getting equipment up.

Terraced streets can be narrow, with limited parking and no space at the front. Some roofs are reached only through the house. These are practical matters, and they are settled at the survey so the job runs smoothly and the quote reflects them.

Where scaffolding needs a licence for the pavement or road, we advise on it early, since it can affect the timing.

Ownership and permissions

Freeholder, leasehold or conservation area?

A freehold house owner usually decides for themselves. A flat or leasehold property typically needs the freeholder's agreement before anything goes on the roof. Conservation areas and listed buildings add their own rules, and some conservation areas carry an Article 4 Direction that removes permitted development rights altogether.

We check which of these apply before you invest time in a design, and we do not claim certainty we do not have.

Real London installs

How the systems differ.

Our London examples range from 5 panels in Mill Hill to 17 in Lewisham with a 5kWh battery, with a flat-roof installation of 10 panels and a 3.3kWh battery in Hornsey in between. Each was specified for its own roof.

Payment options

A large upfront figure need not close the discussion.

With the roof confirmed, compare buying outright against monthly payment plans, short 0% promotions on selected products and qualifying routes where nothing is paid upfront. Your design lists the price, the projected benefit and each payment route on separate lines.

Solar and battery work is rated at zero for VAT until 31 March 2027. Spreading repayments over a longer term can reduce each payment but raises the total cost of credit.

Installing nearby can simplify logistics.

Several installs close together can make logistics simpler. Give us your postcode and we will say if an offer is currently running near you.

Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind London Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and will not touch your credit file.

Before you decide

What a London design should state.

A design is only as good as its assumptions, so ask to see them. It should cover:

Roof use

Which slopes are used, how many panels fit and why.

Panels and kWp

Each panel's rating, plus the total size of the system.

Yearly output

Expected generation across a year, with shade taken into account.

Your share

The portion the household should consume itself, and the export assumptions made.

Cover

Warranties, and how performance figures are validated.

Price

What the project costs, with payment routes shown separately.

Common questions

What London homeowners ask about panels.

Is a flat roof suitable?

Often yes. Panels on a flat roof are mounted on frames at an angle, which needs a check of the roof structure and waterproofing. Parapets and access hatches are considered at the survey.

What if I have a loft conversion or dormer?

They reduce the usable area on that slope, so the layout works around them. Another face of the roof may carry more of the array.

How long does the work take?

Most jobs take a day or two with scaffolding in place, more for large systems or awkward access. The installer talks you through everything before leaving.

Will I need planning permission?

Typically not for an ordinary house, since panels are usually permitted development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and some Article 4 areas are the main exceptions. Read Can solar work on your London roof? for the detail.

What upkeep do panels need?

Almost nothing, since no parts move. Look occasionally for debris, moss or new shade. Panel makers commonly back performance for 25 years or more, adding a shorter product warranty, with our workmanship cover too.

Free, and no obligation to proceed. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and leaves your credit file alone.
